‘Tis the season for four leaf clovers, green beer and booking limousines and party buses. The calls and reservations are coming in for the busy prom season as well as weddings, bachelor and bachelorette parties throughout the summer and fall. Over the next month or so, I will be posting some short and valuable tips that you can use in your decision making process. Since I’ve started my business (five years ago), I have learned a lot about the trade from being on the inside – things I didn’t know before, but I can now share with you while you are checking out different companies, comparing prices and vehicles, etc… I will help you steer clear of the unethical and illegal companies that are out to get you and help you to find the right limousine or party bus that fits your needs, wants and budget, even if its not mine.

Tip #1 – Compare apples to apples, not to oranges

Since most everyone starts their search by looking at prices, I’ll start my series of tips on the same subject. As a consumer, my first response is to look at the price tag; its a natural thing to do and an important one. We’re not all rich, right? (If you are rich, please say so when you call to reserve the limo bus and ask to pay the highest rate possible and include a 50% tip 🙂

HERE’S THE IMPORTANT PART! When you are comparing prices, make sure that you know what that price DOES include and what it DOESN’T include. Company X may quote you a lower price, but after you reserve it, you come to discover that the extra charges make it more expensive than Company D who gave you a lower price with no extra charges.

ASK the company what is included when you get a quote. If they avoid the question and won’t give you a straight answer, well then, that tells you all you need to know about that company! Here are things that you should be aware of and whether they are included or not included.

  • Driver’s percentage/gratuity (industry standard is 20%)*
  • credit card or other processing fees
  • fuel surcharge
  • mileage surcharge
  • what EXACT vehicle is the quote for**

*The driver’s gratuity deserves a special mention as it can cause a lot of confusion. Stay tuned for further tips where I will dedicate a post to just that. 🙂

**Again, selecting and reserving a particular vehicle will be the subject of another blog post.
